About Western Blue Genes
I named this web `Western Blue Genes` because of my Great Grandfather,Amos Blue, and my Great Grandmother Sarah Elizabeth Bowen-Smith-Blue, who came west by wagon train on the Oregon Trail to Medford Oregon. Amos in 1851 and Sarah in 1853.
Blue Family reunions have been held every odd year on the west side of the United States since 2001. On the even years The National Blue Family Association has held reunions in Romney, West Virginia since 1984. The western Blue reunions in the past have been held in Walla Walla WA, Medford OR, and Coeur d’Alene ID.
Amos, at the age of 21, came west from Illinois with a wagon train on the Oregon Trail in 1851, to the Medford Oregon area where he homesteaded and married Sarah Bowen. Sarah had three children from a previous marriage and together they had five more before moving north to Linn County Oregon where their sixth child was born. The family then migrated to Whitman County Washington in the area near Oaksdale & Tekoa. Sarah died in 1888 and is buried in the Lone Pine Cemetery located between the two towns. Amos and part of his family then moved to Nez Perce County in Idaho before 1900 and then to Walla Walla in 1910 where he died in 1912 and is buried at the Mountain View Cemetery. Many descendants of Amos and Sarah still live in these areas. Most of the Blue families in North America belong to either the Dutch Blue family or the Scottish Blue family. Amos Blue is from the Dutch family that came to New Amsterdam in 1651 and received a land grant on Manhattan Island.
All Blue family descendants are welcome and encouraged to attend the Blue Family reunions. For additional information please contact Jim Irwin at jimirwin@charter.net
